AI & TECH News
Let’s start with what’s rolling in AI & tech this week.
Apple recently introduced a new AI model called ReALM, designed to enhance the understanding of contextual information, potentially improving virtual assistants like Siri. This AI model can interpret ambiguous references to on-screen elements and conversational and background context, resulting in more natural interactions with voice assistants. The smallest ReALM models performed like GPT-4 but with fewer parameters, making them ideal for on-device use. Adding more parameters to ReALM significantly boosted its performance over GPT-4.

Alex Mashrabov, former AI lead at Snap, introduced Higgsfield, an AI-powered video creation and editing platform competing against SORA from OpenAI.

They also launched the iOS App Diffiuse. Right now, Diffuse is free to use, but they might start charging for extra special features.

An AI startup called Stability AI has just released an updated version of its creative music tool, Stable Audio 2. This new version is super exciting because it expands the possibilities of AI-generated audio! Listen to my track here. I was already impressed with v1 and v2, which just outsmarted the previous version with 150%+ improvements.

OpenAI introduced an excellent new model called Voice Engine that can mimic someone's voice using a short 15-second audio clip. They haven't released the tool yet, but they shared some insights from testing it out. I'm wondering why there was a gradual release. Well, listen to those examples, and you'll see why it's worth the wait!
US regulators have recently approved a new device that can help diagnose sepsis, a dangerous reaction to infections that affects around 1.7 million Americans annually. The device, Sepsis ImmunoScore, can analyze multiple factors simultaneously to help doctors speed up treatment for sepsis. All these, with the power of LLMs.
Researchers from Anthropic, an AI startup, recently shared new findings about a technique called "many-shot jailbreaking."

This method takes advantage of large language models' (LLMs) ability to learn and follow new instructions within a prompt. They do this by inserting a series of made-up conversations into the prompt, which can manipulate LLMs into producing responses that go against their training. The more dialogues are included, the higher the chance of getting an undesirable or harmful response. The researchers say they're releasing this information to help improve defenses against these vulnerabilities.
Most Exciting AI-powered Hardware Releases:
AI Pin's voice-controlled device lets users play music, take photos, make calls, and ask questions. It also includes a cool laser projector.
Rabbit's R-1, with its retro touch screen and scroll wheel, allows you to easily switch between tasks across all your apps using voice commands. It's also quite affordable.
Brilliant Labs' Frame glasses can recognize and analyze objects in your field of vision. You can even ask the glasses to describe meals' nutritional content and health benefits.
Meta is slowly introducing new AI features for its Ray-Ban smart glasses. The glasses can now identify landmarks and monuments and translate text.
Samsung and Google have already started incorporating AI features into their latest Galaxy and Pixel models. We expect to hear more about Apple's AI offerings at their June conference. Some tech experts have even developed a new term for the next generation of AI-powered phones. Farewell to the era of smartphones. Welcome, 'intelligent phone.'
That’s most of the gist from this week’s AI & tech.

What’s Your Definition of AI?
When you hear about AI, what do you think of? It turns out that even experts don't all have the exact definition. A recent analysis by The Washington Post reveals what readers and experts think about various AI platforms and tools. Some readers consider tap-to-pay as AI, while most experts don't. On the other hand, many readers are unsure if Google Translate qualifies as AI, but most experts believe it does. AI keeps evolving, but one thing is clear: readers and experts tend to agree that chatbots like ChatGPT are AI.
